Black gives a beige canvas definition it would not otherwise have and stops it reading as bland on a white wall. White works only if the wall behind is a different tone, or the frame disappears entirely.
What size should beige wall art be?
Larger than a comparable piece in a strong colour. Because beige has less contrast to hold attention, it needs physical presence to register - 20"x60" (50x150cm) or 24"x72" (60x180cm) above a sofa or bed rather than the 16"x48" (40x120cm) you might choose for something bolder.
