Large and oversized wall art - frequently asked questions

Dimensions, hauteur de suspension et les questions qui nous sont le plus souvent posées.

What size counts as large wall art?

Anything with a long side of about 48in (120cm) or more. In our range that means 16"x48" (40x120cm), 20"x60" (50x150cm), 24"x72" (60x180cm) - the last being six feet across - and 30"x60" (75x150cm), which is the same length again but with far more depth on the wall. For most living rooms, 20"x60" (50x150cm) is the point at which a piece stops decorating a wall and starts anchoring it.

How do you choose art for a very large wall?

Measure the wall, then aim to fill about two-thirds of its width with art - either one big piece or a tight group treated as one. Err larger: a piece that is slightly too big reads as confident, while one that is slightly too small reads as a mistake. On a wall over about 8ft (2.4m) wide, a 24"x72" (60x180cm) or 30"x60" (75x150cm) canvas, or a set of panels, is the realistic minimum.

Is one large piece better than a gallery wall?

For a long wall, usually yes. A single large canvas gives the room one clear focal point and takes minutes to hang; a gallery wall needs planning, more nails, and a coherent frame scheme to avoid looking accidental. Gallery walls earn their keep on a wall that is tall as well as wide, or where you want to display a collection rather than a statement.

How do you hang a large canvas securely?

Use two fixings rather than one, spaced about a third in from each end, and level them with each other - this stops a long canvas from tilting over time. Into plasterboard, use proper plasterboard anchors rather than a bare screw. Our largest pieces are canvas rather than glass, so they are considerably lighter than a framed print of the same size.

Where can you buy oversized wall art up to six feet?

Our longest size is 24"x72" (60x180cm) - six feet on the long side - and for a bigger presence on the wall there is 30"x60" (75x150cm), the same length with considerably more depth. Both are available across the collection rather than on a handful of designs. Every piece is made to order in 1-4 working days, supplied as a stretched canvas or in a floating or classic frame, and delivered free and ready to hang.
