Boven het Bed

Boven het Bed

    Filteren

Above bed wall art - frequently asked questions

Afmetingen, ophanghoogte en de vragen die ons het vaakst worden gesteld.

What size wall art should go above a bed?

As a guide, choose a piece around two-thirds the width of your bed. Above a king bed that means 20"x60" (50x150cm), 24"x72" (60x180cm) or 30"x60" (75x150cm); above a double or queen, 16"x48" (40x120cm), 20"x60" (50x150cm) or 20"x40" (50x100cm); above a single, 12"x36" (30x90cm) or 16"x32" (40x80cm). A long horizontal canvas suits this wall better than a square print because it echoes the line of the headboard instead of floating above it.

How high above the bed should you hang art?

Hang the bottom edge roughly 6-10in (15-25cm) above the top of the headboard. If there is no headboard, centre the piece about 58in (147cm) from the floor, which is standard gallery eye level. Leaving that gap keeps the art visually connected to the bed rather than stranded halfway up the wall.

Should wall art above a bed be horizontal or vertical?

Horizontal works best in most bedrooms. The wall above a bed is wider than it is tall, so a long horizontal canvas fills it naturally and makes the room feel wider. Vertical pieces are worth considering only if you have a high ceiling and a narrow bed, or if you hang two tall panels either side of the headboard rather than one above it.

Is one large piece or a set better above a bed?

One long horizontal piece is the simpler and usually stronger choice - it reads as a single focal point and takes one nail. A set of two or three matching panels works well on a very wide wall above a king bed, where a single canvas would need to be enormous to hold the space. If you use a set, keep 2-4in (5-10cm) between panels so the group reads as one artwork.

What kind of art works best above a bed?

Calm, low-contrast subjects work best above a bed - soft landscapes, abstract washes, botanical studies and muted neutrals. The bedroom is the one room where art is mostly seen last thing at night and first thing in the morning, so restrained colour tends to wear better than a bold statement piece. Anything visually busy or high-contrast will feel more restless in this position than it does above a sofa.
