Ensemble de 3 œuvres murales

    Filtrer

3 piece wall art - frequently asked questions

Dimensions, hauteur de suspension et les questions qui nous sont le plus souvent posées.

      What is a triptych?

A triptych is one artwork divided across three panels, hung together as a single composition. The image runs continuously from left to right, so the three canvases are meant to be read as one picture rather than as three related ones. The form dates back to medieval altarpieces, which were hinged in three parts.

How do you hang a three-piece wall art set?

Hang the centre panel first and level it, then work outwards, keeping an equal 2-4in (5-10cm) gap on each side. Measure the total span before you start - three 16"x48" (40x120cm) panels with 3in (8cm) gaps come to about 54in (137cm) across. Getting all three tops level matters more than the gap being exact.

What size wall do you need for a three-piece set?

Allow the combined panel width plus the two gaps, then 4-6in (10-15cm) of clear wall at each end. Three 12"x36" (30x90cm) panels need roughly 45in (115cm) of wall; three 16"x48" (40x120cm) panels need roughly 62in (158cm); three 20"x60" (50x150cm) panels need roughly 76in (193cm). Below about 5ft (1.5m) of clear wall, a two-piece set or a single canvas will sit better.

What is the difference between a triptych and three separate prints?

A triptych is one image split across three canvases, so the composition only makes sense assembled - a line or horizon carries across the gaps. Three separate prints are three complete images that happen to be displayed together, and can be rearranged or hung apart. If you want flexibility, buy three singles; if you want one large statement, buy the triptych.

Where does a three-piece set work best?

On the widest wall in the room: above a three-seater sofa, above a king bed, or behind a dining table or sideboard. It needs width to breathe - three panels squeezed onto a narrow wall lose the rhythm that makes the format work. Give it a wall of at least 5ft (1.5m) clear and it becomes the focal point of the room.
